In addition to our bi-weekly rehearsals, Great River Voices (GRV) offers a wide range of programming designed to enhance your musical experience. We provide a variety of workshops, on-site presentations, and internal sessions focused on vocal techniques, performance skills, and ensemble dynamics.
Even though our programs are geared towards the style of Barbershop quartet singing, the principles and skills taught can be applied to any ensemble type and singing overall. Whether you’re looking to refine your abilities or expand your repertoire, GRV has something for everyone. Join us and take advantage of these opportunities to grow as a singer and performer.

Workshop Series

Strengthening Singers at Every Level

Led by Assistant Director Brandon Hall, our workshop series offers a dynamic mix of musical learning and practical guidance for singers of all backgrounds. These sessions dive into music theory, vocal technique, and ensemble skills, aiming to build strong, well-rounded musicianship—whether you’re singing with Great River Voices or anywhere else.

One featured session, Quartet Quandary, takes a deeper look at the art and challenges of quartet singing. Brandon guides participants through the unique dynamics of small-group performance, covering everything from forming and maintaining a quartet to navigating common pitfalls, choosing repertoire, setting goals, and fostering healthy communication. While especially relevant to those in the Barbershop world, the insights shared apply across ensemble types and styles.

Whether you’re new to singing or a seasoned performer, these workshops offer tools to help you grow, connect, and thrive in your musical journey. Have specific questions or topics in mind? Reach out—we’re always happy to tailor content to your needs.

On-Site Presentations

Our on-site presentations are a distinctive feature of Great River Voices (GRV). These sessions are facilitated by either members of GRV’s leadership team or dedicated volunteers who are passionate about sharing their expertise. The presentations cover a range of important subjects, including current events, popular culture, and social issues.

They aim to educate and inspire, providing valuable knowledge and perspectives that extend beyond the scope of Barbershop harmony singing. These sessions enrich our community and broaden our understanding of the world.

Guest Nights

While guests are always welcome at our Wednesday rehearsals, special guest nights are designed especially for those new to Barbershop singing. These events include assistance in finding the right vocal part, pairing newcomers with experienced singers to help with the music, and enjoying performances from the chorus and quartets.

The focus is on sharing the joy of Barbershop and ensemble singing, fostering community, and introducing new members to the unique experience of singing with us. It’s an opportunity to connect, learn, and be entertained by the vibrant spirit of our group.
